The king of the barefoots
Now running barefoot, that sounds like kids stuff. Well not anymore! Here is a nice article in the LA Times by Roy Wallack. It outlines what’s going on and the benefits and possible risks. But we are more interested in what this means for watches.
Garmin released a feature rich watch with GPS functions for really monitoring your work out. You can follow your work out with real location monitoring features. There are a lot of watches that can monitor heart rate and calories burned (here is one of our favorites) but GPS! nice.

Its big, but it works good
Garmin has released a few models and the battle among their customers right now is between the 305, a big watch that works great (check out the reviews on Amazon here) and the 405, a sleaker, more styled version. It syncs with your computer, has a touch screen type interface and you can even wear it to dinner. Its got both complaints and praise on Amazon reviews here.

Sleek, and a discussion starter
We are not sure which one to get. One of them is shipping out to us right now. Having a good way of keeping track of your training is important and rewarding, but it sure is nice to be able to keep the same watch on when you hit the town. Gives you something to talk about and you can prove you’ve been busting your ass on the track. You can even leave the shoes behind!
We were thrilled to find this very fine watch at a British auction house.

A very fine watch
The Lemania single pusher Air Ministry pilot chronograph with a classic NATO wrist strap is extremely hard to come by these days, hence we recommend military watch lovers to take a look at the very fine Tissot PRC200 automatic cronograph, and the reproduction of the same wristband Sean Connery wore together with his Rolex in Goldfinger.

Not a bad watch
These rare pieces are still woven in Wales by legendary original NATO-stockist Phoenix Straps Ltd, Clocks & Watches in Cardiff. Now remade in the exact right colours after a sharp glance at the restored original movie and sold by Swedish independent watch stockist Urtid.

rare weave
You’ll look as sharp as your grandfather in the days of conscription – hard as a rock, able bodied, ready – indestructible and irresistible; just like those real men back in the day!
In our constant hunt for watches that please the eye and warm the wrist (and tell the time of course!) we run into some interesting stories. Recently, we ran into a company that went out of business, the founder begging to be allowed to buy it back was denied, and off the production goes to China. We’ll tell that story later.
Its the presitdents, keep your hands off!
For now we’re going to concentrate on the trend setting 44th president of the United States. As far as we know he has always worn his Tag Heuer to the big parties, but right in the middle of the campaign it seems a switch happened.
Nowadays you catch him signing papers and shaking hands with this simple and elegant piece. We like it. Japanese workmanship and a classic, “timeless” design. Chromatic watches are one of the easiest ways for a man to show he knows what time it is, and this one is no exception. We especially like this tag on the President’s:

Scret service gift
We think this watch is a step up for Mr. Obama, Tag H’s are great but every guy has one and Tiger is bringing us all down with his tricks.
You might just catch Martin with one of these on at your local night club. Hello Jorg Gray, that’s how you grab some attention.
We were astonished by these hand polished rosewood winders,

A beautiful, classic device for the keeping of your beautiful, classic timepieces.
for your automatic timepieces; the fact that they are programmable for simultanious right- left or left revolvings between 650 to 3600 times per 24 hours just increases the want-level to dizzying heights. Here at watchmeme.com we merely have one thing to say about these rosewood wonders: We Want. Now.
Core Light Green of course. What a watch! Now, just because we have been caught with an overly expensive watch peeking out of our sleeves from time to time doesn’t mean we don’t fall for the practical ones as well. This one has some great features and a price that means any of us can go pick one up today, try here, there is a Suunto dealer out there for you.

The useful and great looking Suunto Clean Light Green
Now there is a great amount of features here for all you hiker, climber, diver, am fitter than thou types. We aren’t really like that but its fun to look like it!
We think this watch is easy to use if you want to keep track of altitude or even keep track of how deep you’ve gone. The weather trend indicator is great and we really liked the sun-rise, sun-set function.
Suunto, if you have spent anytime with one of their pieces, is instantly recognizable just be the feel. See if you can find yours today.
Some watches are made for fashion. Put them on your arm and they make you look and feel great. Other watches manage that and can hand 170 mph car crashes.

Richard Mille's crash proof watch
Richard Mille has made some impressive watches. They are always top of the line material and stick out in a crowd, no matter what else you have on your arm. Titanium watches have a special feel, if you haven’t tried one get to a store and do it now. We highly recommend it.
With a tough and rugged style coupled with a technical and mechanically visual feel you have a watch that a “real” man can wear while kicking a football around or to the highest of societal fetes.
Our only complain is their website. It is awful. Someone tell them to turn the racing sounds and flash off. We are there to see the watches and hear about the design, not to waste time waiting for some two bit designer’s cartoon to load.
We found quite a few here, good to see you can find them online too.
Some men like complicated things, complicated women, jobs, math problems. The Swatch Fine Steel is a simple thing. Classic design, easy to read, light to wear.

a simple watch
Here at watch meme we like it when gadgets do what they are made to do. We don’t need all the extra’s, just the real deal. If you feel the same then this could be the watch for you.
The swatch trend never died, you can find small swatch spots in mall’s all over the world and they still have some of the most reliable pieces on the market. So maybe it was never a trend in the first place.

As I hear people say that not even the most exclusive Swiss watch makers are making their own clock works these days I am happy to carry an automatic Seiko diver’s watch.
Japanese Seiko is one of the last manufacturers who are still making most of their components themselves, according to some, even the lubricants used in their mechanisms. That sounds fantastic today, when even different cars are cost-cuttingly built on the same chassis platforms; in a world where few truly dare to be unique it is harder to find distinction.
Surprisingly enough we still do in the land of the rising sun. Sayonara.
