The king of the barefoots

Now running barefoot, that sounds like kids stuff. Well not anymore! Here is a nice article in the LA Times by Roy Wallack. It outlines what’s going on and the benefits and possible risks. But we are more interested in what this means for watches.

Garmin released a feature rich watch with GPS functions for really monitoring your work out. You can follow your work out with real location monitoring features. There are a lot of watches that can monitor heart rate and calories burned (here is one of our favorites) but GPS! nice.

Its big, but it works good

Garmin has released a few models and the battle among their customers right now is between the 305, a big watch that works great (check out the reviews on Amazon here) and the 405, a sleaker, more styled version. It syncs with your computer, has a touch screen type interface and you can even wear it to dinner. Its got both complaints and praise on Amazon reviews here.

Sleek, and a discussion starter

We are not sure which one to get. One of them is shipping out to us right now. Having a good way of keeping track of your training is important and rewarding, but it sure is nice to be able to keep the same watch on when you hit the town. Gives you something to talk about and you can prove you’ve been busting your ass on the track. You can even leave the shoes behind!

For now we’re going to concentrate on the trend setting 44th president of the United States. As far as we know he has always worn his Tag Heuer to the big parties, but right in the middle of the campaign it seems a switch happened.

The useful and great looking Suunto Clean Light Green

Now there is a great amount of features here for all you hiker, climber, diver, am fitter than thou types. We aren’t really like that but its fun to look like it!

We think this watch is easy to use if you want to keep track of altitude or even keep track of how deep you’ve gone. The weather trend indicator is great and we really liked the sun-rise, sun-set function.

Richard Mille's crash proof watch

Richard Mille has made some impressive watches. They are always top of the line material and stick out in a crowd, no matter what else you have on your arm. Titanium watches have a special feel, if you haven’t tried one get to a store and do it now. We highly recommend it.

With a tough and rugged style coupled with a technical and mechanically visual feel you have a watch that a “real” man can wear while kicking a football around or to the highest of societal fetes.

Our only complain is their website. It is awful. Someone tell them to turn the racing sounds and flash off. We are there to see the watches and hear about the design, not to waste time waiting for some two bit designer’s cartoon to load.

Here at watch meme we like it when gadgets do what they are made to do. We don’t need all the extra’s, just the real deal. If you feel the same then this could be the watch for you.

The swatch trend never died, you can find small swatch spots in mall’s all over the world and they still have some of the most reliable pieces on the market. So maybe it was never a trend in the first place.

As I hear people say that not even the most exclusive Swiss watch makers are making their own clock works these days I am happy to carry an automatic Seiko diver’s watch.

Japanese Seiko is one of the last manufacturers who are still making most of their components themselves, according to some, even the lubricants used in their mechanisms. That sounds fantastic today, when even different cars are cost-cuttingly built on the same chassis platforms; in a world where few truly dare to be unique it is harder to find distinction.
